This is a big year for me.  It is my Silver Anniversary in the yarn business.  In those 25 years I have been at three different locations.   My first shop I opened Labor Day 1983 was the Hoppy Stitchers located downtown Cadillac.  In July 1989 I moved to McBain and had Mainstreet Flowers and Stitchery with my daughter Melissa.   I moved in February 1997 to a shop on the side of my home on the east end of Cadillac and am now called The Knitter’s Nest.  I started my business being a multi-needle craft shop and now am a unique yarn shop.  Over the years I have made a lot of friends from all over the United States.  I mail items to customers from Arizona, Colorado, and Indiana.  But my Michigan customers are the best!

When my husband Glen passed away last year I realized how many friends we had.  A lot of my ladies knew Glen and respected him. (for living with meJ)  He is truly missed by my Thursday morning and night gals.

To celebrate my 25th anniversary, I am having a party the week of September 16-19th.  BIG PRIZES---BIG SALE!

Everything in the store (EXCEPT needles—and special orders) will be 25% off.  I will have daily drawings and on the 19th there will be a drawing for a $100 gift certificate from McGuires and a $50 gift certificate from The Shay.

The new fall schedule will be available for you to pick up by September 19th

Some of the classes will be beginning knitting, beginning and advanced crochet, lace, module knitting, toe-up-sock and bead knitting.

I will be having surgery in late October and will be doing mostly daytime classes.  We will have night classes with other teachers.

If you have 3-6 people who would like a special class, let us know and we can work something out.

I thought it would be interesting to highlight some of the things that have happened since I opened my shop 25 years ago.  I have held day/night classes for women, men and children of all ages.  It would be interesting to know how many people I have helped learn to knit/crochet over the years.

In 1998 we started Knitting for stress therapy at the hospital twice a month on Tuesday nights.  About five years ago, we started a group at Horizon Books on the Tuesdays we were not at the hospital.

One year we all knitted an ornament and donated the ornaments and a tree to be auctioned off for charity.

A few years ago quite a few of us got together once a month and knitted a square a month for a year with wool yarn from Uruguay.  It was interesting to see how each afghan turned out with each of us using the same pattern, but using different colors of yarn.

Over the last few years I have held a few Saturday workshops.  One was a felted purse class lead by Dottie VanderPol.

Margaret Radcliffe from Maggie’s Rags helped us learn a number of knitting techniques.

Chris de Longpre’ from Knitting at Knoon came up from Kentwood and helped us knit a module blanket.

I had a group sit at the St. Ann’s church carnival to allow people to see what knitting is all about.

I also sponsor the Cadillac Symphony Orchestra.

Over the years I have had a lot of great people work for me.

Beth Quist in McBain. Jill Irey, Joyce McPearson, and Barb Shankland.  Melissa Thompson helps with the newsletter.

I have had a busy 25 years and it was due to wonderful customers like you!

See you at the Sale (if not before!)
